La Calma eco-friendly farm-la finca- is owned by a family who cares for and about the mental health and wellness of those working in the nonprofit world and/or are related to it somehow. The family offers an eco-friendly environment in a Colombian Finca that facilitates a break from the day-to-day stress unique to nonprofit world.
Making the Finca in Colombia a venue available for individuals, couples, family and/or work team to enjoy and host events, is a powerful way to support those facing high-stress workloads.
The idea grew out of the family’s deep concern for the mental health and well-being of their niece, Alexandra Sossa. Constantly dedicated to her work, Alexandra rarely takes time to pause, rest, or simply find joy. Seeing her devotion inspired the family to offer a Finca where people like her -who might not otherwise have the opportunity to step away- can enjoy a well-deserved getaway.
Alexandra is the Bilingual Chief Executive officer with the Farmworker and Landscaper Advocacy Project -FLAP-, a 501(c)(3) organization based in Chicago, Illinois, USA, with a very unique mission to improve working conditions and opportunities, free of charge, for low-wage workers and their households in the food supply chain, greenhouse, landscaping, nursery, and snow plowing industries. Because of the population served, FLAP relies on donations.
By opening the Finca as a space to relax, the family hopes to offer something meaningful in the Andes mountains to anyone who would like to spend time in nature.
What started as somewhere for the family to gather became somewhere other people gather too: organizations that needed a place to think, teams that needed a few days away, and groups who wanted to meet somewhere that felt like a home rather than a conference center.

What makes it an eco-friendly farm
The land is worked and looked after rather than landscaped. Most of what ends up on the table is grown nearby, and the gardens are kept for the birds and pollinators as much as for the guests.
Common birds in the Finca, include colorful tanagers, active hummingbirds, and familiar local species like motmots and flycatchers.
Nestled within the Aburrá Valley, La Calma enjoys a warm, subtropical climate averaging 20–28°C (68–82°F). Its surrounding countryside and curated gardens showcase a lush mix of tropical blooms, native Andean flowering trees, and vibrant garden plants, including lobster claws, anthuriums, passion flowers, orchids, and bromeliads. Visitors will also spot stunning blooms from Tibouchina lepidota, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis, cascading bougainvillea, and fragrant angel’s trumpets.

La Calma is about 45 minutes from Medellín, in Girardota, Antioquia and 1.5 hours from José María Córdova International Airport (MDE).
Every overnight rate includes transportation from José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) to La Calma, and from La Calma back to the airport at the end of your stay. Day visits include transportation to and from Habana Vieja Hotel in El Poblado.
